It is amazing to me to get the amount of traffic i get every day for a $3000 car. It reinforces what i said a while back about the cash for clunker debacle. The government never should have gotten involved in the automotive industry. It did and with not a bit of regard for the used car industry. What? are we second class citizens? Does anyone in the government ever buy a used car? Oh, I'm sorry, Not for 3000 or 4000 dollars!! obviously!
My opinion is that it will take 2 to 3 years before the hole that this program left in the used car marketplace is filled. Unfortunately the mom and pop buying public once again take the brunt of yet another failed government program .

LOOKING FOR A CHEAP USED CAR?

I begin today by saying two things,Tell me Mr Obama how this cashh for clunkers stimulates the economy and who deciedes what crushers get the contract and who gets the scrap money?
I don't know about you but it seems to me if Mr Obama wanted to stimulate the automotive industry, he could have made it an incentive for domestic automakers only. It seems a shame that good used car that was 3500. that you might buy for a second car or a first car for your child just getting his/her license has to be crushed for the sake of a floundering industry. Who says this is going to work anyway? What about buying a good USED car? No incentives there!!! How about if you were to buy a 1 year old gas saving auto instead of a new car and wanted to trade in the "clunker" ? I'M SORRY, it doesn't stimulate new car sales. Oh, wait a minute, wasn't this about getting gas guzzlers off the road? my mistake.
So, why couldn't we sell the scrap from the clunkers to China and get a credit off of our debt to them since they are the biggest buyers of our scrap metal anyway. I think it could go like this: take the scrap, sell it to china, get a credit and at least some of the burden of funding this fiasco could be less. Instead it will probably go like this: take the car to an approved scrap yard, can you spell cronyism?,get your government credit(we pay for it) and the scrap yard sells it to China. What's wrong with this picture?????

junker bill passes

Good Morning
How do you feel this morning about giving our money away in the form of vouchers for 3500 to 4500 dollars for trade ins?Maybe Mr. Obama should take the billions of dollars he is going to fund this fiasco with and invest in better technology for greener cars. I for one think that THAT would stimulate new car sales. A car or truck that would consistantly get 40-50 mpg, yeah thats the ticket!!! How rediculous is it that you can get 3500 for upping you gas mileage 2 mpg on an SUV or 4500 if your new SUV gets 10 mpg more? So, if you are driving and old suburban that gets 8 miles to the gallon and you get a new one that gets 11 mpg you get 3500!! It doesn't matter if your old suburban was ready for the junkyard and had 250,000 miles on it , you still qualify! Kinda sad dontcha think. Worse is that we the taxpayers and ultimatly the ones who are paying for these vouchers are letting it happen and have no say in the matter.
When was the last time you bought a new car? Maybe you didn't because you had college tuitions to pay for, or student loans or just getting by day by day and had to patch the old girl together just one more time. Where are the incentives for used car sales? I guess Mr. Obama can't think past New Car Sales even though used car sales and dealers are part of the make up of the automobile industry.

So now what?

Now that the government has taken control of GM, what happens next? It's kind of interesting that Obama can push for incentives to make people buy new cars now that the government is in the car business!!! Why wouldn't he? Afterall if you are in business you strive to create sales don't you? How come he couldn't do that BEFORE the gov. took over? Just wondering. So, only if you are interested in buying a NEW car can you get clunker money (up to 4500. dollars!!) The dealer that trades the so called clunkers are supposed to destroy them. At whose expense? What happens to all the cars on the market that qualify as clunkers but are really just good used cars? How about if we have the Government make a deal with Mexico and points south, Russia, and other emerging countries to buy the "clunkers" ? They obviously don't care about pollution so maybe obama can get some of OUR money back that he so generously wants to give away. Just a thought. Finally, how about if there is incentive money to buy a better fuel economy USED car? Oh, i'm sorry THAT won't work, it doesn't stimulate New car sales and help Obama Motors.

The State of the Used Car Industry

I find that a lot of people are confused about the state of the used car industry and in particular pricing and availability. Because the new car dealers are not selling as many new cars as they used to, they are selling more used cars then ever. When they take a car in on trade that they normally would have wholesaled at auction or to any number of used car dealers they are keeping it if it's any good at all. Unfortunatly, what then happens is, there are less quality used cars available . Not only are the used car dealers trying to buy these cars at auction, but the new car dealers as well. This drives the market like nothing else. Pure and simple supply and demand. Interestingly enough, the banks, finance companies and marketing companies such as Kelly Blue Book and Edmonds have not adjusted thier values to coincide with the market trends. As a result people who are trying to be informed buyers by using these tools are actually misinformed
